Why Winter is The Best Time to Get Pierced

July 2026

There are two kinds of people in winter. The first is already planning their European summer. Flights are booked, accommodation is sorted, and online shopping orders are arriving daily. The second? They're staying home, finding comfort in cold morning sunrises and warm evening baths, spending weekends in oversized jumpers and finally booking the piercing appointment they've been putting off for six months.

If you're somewhere between the two, consider this your sign.

Contrary to popular belief, winter might just be the best time of year to get pierced. Not only is it the perfect antidote to the inevitable winter slump, it also gives your new piercing something incredibly valuable. Time.

Healing isn't something you can rush, no matter how excited you are to swap jewellery or add another piece to your stack. And winter naturally creates the ideal environment for this process. Along with the colder weather comes less time spent in the ocean or by the pool, and significantly less sweating, all of which can reduce unnecessary irritation during the most important first few months.

Your new piercing gets an entire season where it can simply exist without constantly being exposed to salt water, sand and endless humidity. Instead of working against the elements, your body has the chance to heal without interruption, making the transition into warmer weather far more comfortable.

However, the colder weather and calmer healing environment isn’t the only positive. There’s  also another advantage that rarely gets mentioned. By the time spring arrives, your piercing has had months to settle. The initial tenderness has passed, the healing process is well underway, and you're not spending the first few weeks of returned warmth avoiding the ocean. Instead, while everyone else is scrambling to book appointments before summer, you're already deciding what your next piece of jewellery should be.

If you've been thinking about adding that second lobe, finally committing to a helix, upgrading your everyday jewellery, or giving your curated stack the missing piece it's been asking for, winter gives you the perfect opportunity to do it. There is less pressure, fewer distractions and plenty of time to enjoy the process of building a stack that feels considered rather than rushed.

Because that's the thing about getting pierced in winter. By the time summer finally arrives, it won't feel like something new you're trying to get used to. It'll feel like it's always belonged there.
