Every great summer ear has a start date, and it is earlier than you think.
We picture it already finished. Gold catching the light against sun-warmed skin, a stack that looks considered from every angle, worn with a linen shirt and nothing else. What we forget is the part that comes first. A new piercing needs time before it is ready for its finished look, and that time does not wait for the season to arrive.
If you want to wear your new curation this summer, the time to book is now.
Count back from summer
A new piercing typically needs 8 to 12 weeks before its first downsize. Until then, it wears a longer starter post designed to give the piercing room to settle.
Count back from summer and the maths is simple:
- Pierce now and your first downsize lands just as the warm months arrive. Your curation is finished in time for the season.
- Wait until December and you will still be healing through the holidays, wearing starter posts through the very weeks you planned to show your ear off.
The difference between the two is not the piercing. It is the start date.
Downsizing is when it all comes together
The day you are pierced is the beginning. The first downsize is when a curation really comes together.
A shorter post sits closer to the ear, so each piece catches the light properly instead of sitting forward on a long bar. Hoops, studs and gemstones finally settle into one composed line. The whole stack looks finished.
It is also more comfortable for everyday life. Less length means less catching on hair, hats, towels and pillows, which matters when summer days are long and full.

Choose your experience
Two of our piercing experiences are made for building a summer ear.
The Deluxe Piercing Experience is for one or two new piercings, with time to talk through placement and styling with your piercer. It is a beautiful place to start if this is your first piercing with us, or if you want an expert eye on how a new addition fits the ear you already have.
The Ear Curation Experience is our most considered appointment, made for three to four piercings in a single session. Your piercer looks at your anatomy, your existing jewellery and the feeling you want your ear to have, then helps you plan the whole curation.
Every Covetear earring is sold individually, so your curation is built piece by piece. Mix metals, gemstones and shapes across both ears, and choose exactly what each piercing deserves.
